New Moon in Aquarius & Lunar New Year

We have a New Moon in Aquarius on Wednesday (1/29) which is also the Lunar New Year. “'Lunar New Years' and 'Lunisolar New Years' are events celebrated by billions of people across the world on the first new moon of their calendar. Typically, the new year of a purely lunar calendar is determined by the first new moon after the end of a cycle of twelve lunar months (and ignores the solar cycle). The new year of a lunisolar calendar is typically determined by the first, second or even third new moon after the winter solstice, or after an equinox.” (wikipedia)

The Lunar New Year, often called the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, is the most important holiday in China and many other Asian communities. It is an annual 15-day festival that begins with the new moon. The festival lasts until the following full moon.

This year is the year of the snake, according to Chinese astrology, the Year of the Snake is associated with transformation, renewal, and spiritual growth. Snakes are known for their ability to shed their skin, symbolizing the process of letting go of the old and embracing the new. With the fierce independent energy of Aquarius, encouraging us all to be a little more bold and stand out, mixed with this adaptive and evolutionary energy of the snake, let this New Moon cycle be a symbol of victorious triumphs over your inner battles. As we all trudge on through our own personal muds, let us all embody the free and humanitarian spirit that is Aqauarius.

The new moon is my favorite time to make my goals, my vision boards and to really spend some time and energy on bringing my visions closer to me. This is the time that I will do shadow work specially around blocks to my goals and how I can work through them proactively. Embrace the spirit of the snake when it comes to shedding and allow those self imposed limitations to start to fade away as you welcome in this new vision of self.

Shadow Work Prompts:

  • What areas of my life do I feel limited in?

  • What/who do I feel attached to?

  • Explore the feelings around self change. What feelings come up when thinking about growing and changing as a person?

  • Spend some time writing out a goal in graphic detail

(don’t forget to hit that heart button)

Happy New Moon & Happy Lunar New Year
