Movement is Medicine

Movement is one of the most powerful, natural ways to shift and release energy. When we talk about “movement as medicine,” we’re honoring the truth that our bodies store emotions, memories, and unprocessed experiences, especially the ones we’ve pushed down or hidden in the shadows.

3 Ways to Engage Movement in Your Inner Work Practice

Intuitive Movement or Somatic Expression

Set aside time to move freely without structure—put on music, close your eyes, and let your body guide you. This is not about choreography or form, but about expression. As you explore your inner world, this kind of movement can help release emotions stored in the body, especially those too complex or subtle for words. Let your body tremble, sway, stretch, or curl, whatever it needs to do to move the energy.

Inner Work & Movement

During shadow work, we’re digging into the unconscious parts of ourselves, old wounds, shame, fear, or patterns we’ve developed to protect ourselves. This kind of deep emotional excavation can stir up a lot of energy in the body. If that energy isn’t acknowledged and released, it can become stuck, showing up as tension, fatigue, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm.

That’s where movement comes in.

Whether it’s gentle stretching, yoga, dance, walking, or shaking out the body, intentional movement helps energy flow. It clears stagnant emotional residue and reconnects you to your body as a safe space. Movement also helps you stay grounded when you’re exploring heavier emotions, bringing you out of the mind and back into the body where healing can truly happen.

Incorporating mindful movement into your shadow work practice allows you to process on a physical level, not just a mental or emotional one. It’s a way to let your body speak, release, and guide you through the journey of transformation.
