Autumn Equinox 2026

On Tuesday, September 22, we have our fall equinox coming to us. The word equinox comes from the Latin meaning of equal and on this day, the sun and moon have an equal display as we begin our descent into winter. The equinox is the official start of Autumn in the northern hemisphere. After this day, we begin to tilt further away from the sun, resulting in shorter days and longer nights.
One of the spiritual aspects of this event is preparing for darkness. The equinox represents equal parts of dark and light mirroring the meaning of polarity and balance. This is a time seen as the harvest in our lands and also a harvest within. Just as farmers have reaped crops from seeds planted in the spring, this is a time to bear fruits of your own personal growth and accomplishments. This is an invitation to turn inward as daylight shortens, and the energy begins to shift from an outward expression into an inward expression. (Also an invitation into inner stillness and shadow work.)
In alignment with the harvest, and the energy of gratitude, this is a beautiful time to honor the abundance in your life, and give thanks to the land, to the people in your life who have brought richness to it, and to yourself for the work that you have done. As nature begins to slow down during the equinox, it is wise to also begin to slow down with it. Initiating us into a period of rest and restoration.
The equinox also represents the beginning of the Libra season, which is the energy of balance. As we begin to shift into this energy of reciprocity and balance, examining areas in your own life where you need a restoration of these energies is welcomed.
Shadow Work for the Equinox:
What seeds have I planted in the Spring that I am receiving the harvest of this season?
Where can I use a restoration of balance in my life?
When do I allow space for pause and stillness?
How can I create more space for myself within?
What am I grateful for?
As the season shifts into longer nights and shorter days, let this be your pathway inward and welcome the darkness that naturally occurs during this time of year. Using this natural pause to initiate inner stillness for clarity and connection.
Happy Fall 🍁
