It’s never too late

I have been reading Old Path White Clouds by Thich Nhat Hanh with a book club and as i was reading this morning i came across a passage in a story about the Buddha crossing paths with a violent and vicious murderer. He was attempting to get this warrior to change his ways and told him

“it’s never too late to do a good act”

And i have sat with that all morning. It’s truly never too late to engage in the practice of cultivating stillness. It’s never too late to dive in. It’s never too late to start over. Sometimes we think, i can’t do it because of some factor like age or timeline. But all we have is now, today. It’s never too late to start loving yourself.

Letting go

Happy full moon (yesterday) although we are still in that energy for the next 2 1/2 days. This energy is encouraging of letting go. Letting go of those things that hold us back, weigh us down, and prevent us from being our highest self’s.

Letting go is one of the most challenging and most powerful aspects of inner work. Letting go allows us to take our power back, We’re not giving it away anymore. One of the things we tend to hold onto so tightly is resentment. We think that if we let go it dismisses our pain, it’s somehow erases the suffering we have endured. But holding onto that so deeply is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to perish. (It only hurts us!)

So in this full moon energy, ask yourself “what do i need to let go of?” And start that process of uncovering,…

Fear

One of the favorite tattoos that I have on my body says, “ fear is the thief of dreams”. And I have always deeply believed that. Another good quote is from one of my favorite science fiction series Dune, “ fear is the mind killer”.

When we get caught up in fear, when we allow our anxieties to take over, they begin to dictate our future. We can feel paralyzed by these fears, unable to make moves in the directions that we’re trying to go. A great way to combat these fears is to first, recognize them. Give them a little space to be seen and heard so that you can rationally move past them.

Another thing to remember when dealing with those fears, is to remember that courage is not the absence of fear. To courageously trudge forward means to keep putting 1 foot in front of the other,…

At the retreat you had a book named Anger (I think). Who is the author? What was the other book?

I have been reading Love in Action by Thich Nhat Hanh off and on for the past year. This book has been a great offering of light during these darker times for us as a nation.

Thich Nhat Hanh remained in his peaceful ways during the heights of the Vietnam war and his teachings have brought me insight and calm as the the United States continues to aid and support in the ongoing wars and conflicts around the world and within our own country.

In these times of external conflict and chaos, we must seek refuge within. Our inner place of peace and harmony, following our breath inward to this space of stillness and back out again. “You cannot see your reflection in boiling water. Similarly, you cannot see the truth in a state of anger. When the waters calm, clarity comes”

Let it settle so you can think clearly…
